De-Lovely, a biopic about the life of legendary composer/lyricist Cole Porter, has the feel of a movie set against the backdrop of Porter's music, rather than one of the classic MGM musical extravanganzas of old.
But it's still an MGM musical and, for a singer like John, a dream come true.
The film uses contemporary artists such as Sheryl Crow, Natalie Cole and Alanis Morrisette (among others) who make cameo appearances singing Porter tunes as the story unfolds, bringing the incredible music of Cole Porter to a new generation.
Porter is convincingly portrayed by Kevin Kline, with his beloved wife,
Linda, beautifully and elegantly played by Ashley Judd. John appears
as one of Porter's male lovers, in a role which features a stand-out performance of Night and Day, in duet with Kline.
