Message from Michael O'Mara books re National Theatre, 24 June

If you are going to the National Theatre on 24 June for the platform event, please read the following message from Michael O'Mara Books.

"Unfortunately, due to the pressures of time, we are unable to offer the opportunity to pose for photographs with John. This is to make sure that as many people as possible get the chance to have their book signed before John has to leave. You're welcome to snap photos of John as he’s signing, but it really slows the event down to allow everyone to pose with John. Please note that John will only be signing copies of his autobiography I Am What I Am and nothing else. Apologies for any disappointment, but we really want to try and squeeze everyone in!” Michael O'Mara Books

Tonight's The Night returns for a second series

Press release from the BBC:

Tonight's The Night, hosted by John Barrowman, has been re-commissioned. The show, which will be produced in Scotland this summer, will be tied to the National Lottery and include the live draws.

Following a successful first series, the show, which sets out to make dreams come true, will return to BBC One on Saturday nights. It will feature a series of surprises for unsuspecting and deserving members of the public, all of whom will have the chance to give the performance of a lifetime. They could find themselves performing to the nation with their pop star idol, on stage with the cast of their favourite musical or locked in a head to head race with their Formula One hero. Now also featuring the live Lotto, Dream Number and Thunderball Saturday draws, it's the show that really can make dreams a reality.

John Barrowman said: "I am just thrilled that Tonight's The Night is coming back to Saturday nights on BBC One. Once again I can't wait to make the nation's performance dreams come true."

Alan Tyler, Executive Editor for Entertainment, said: “We're delighted that Tonight's the Night will be produced by BBC Scotland this summer. John has worked in the Pacific Quay studio before and we are confident that his enthusiasm for the show and for a return to Glasgow will light up the screen".

The show is a co-production between BBC Vision’s in-house entertainment department and Barrowman Barker Productions, and will be executive produced by Louise Rainbow. The show was commissioned by BBC One Controller, Jay Hunt, Controller of Entertainment, Mark Linsey and Executive Editor for Entertainment, Alan Tyler.

John Barrowman - the new Album, now available to pre-order from iTunes UK

The album download for the UK and Eire also includes the exclusive bonus track "The Doctor and I".

Recorded exclusively for the iTunes album, The Doctor and I, about Captain Jack’s relationship with Doctor Who, is an imaginative re-working of "The Wizard And I" from the musical "Wicked".

John explains:
"I first sang this version of the song at a concert in Wales for, amongst others, David Tennant and Russell T. Davies," he says of his Doctor Who co-star and writer, "and they loved it. Which is why it's on this album. We've given it new lyrics to make the song relevant to Captain Jack and his relationship with the Doctor. It’s quirky, it's funny and it's really good. I'm terribly proud of it."

Stephen Schwartz says:
“It's always fun for a songwriter to hear a talented singer take a song and do something different with it. I have been lucky enough to have the terrific John Barrowman do it with two of my songs, the enchanting new duet arrangement of "So Close" from Enchanted (with Jodie Prenger's fantastic voice blending perfectly with John's) and John's "wicked" re-imagining of The Wizard -- oops, I mean The Doctor and I. Thank you, John, for making this songwriter very happy."

John Barrowman - The new album (now due for release 1 March)

John Barrowman, Britain's most successful - and comfortably Britain's best - all-round entertainer releases his third solo album, the self-titled John Barrowman on March 1st on Arista. John Barrowman is easily one of the most familiar faces on British television and the West End stage. Best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness in the BBC series’ Torchwood and Doctor Who, he has also been a judge on the award-winning BBC1 entertainment shows How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Any Dream Will Do and I’d Do Anything. More recently he has hosted his own primetime Saturday night TV extravaganza, Tonight's The Night and graced London’s West End as Zaza in the Olivier Award-winning La Cage Aux Folles.

John Barrowman is perhaps his most personal album to date – the album he has always wanted to make. As with 2007's Another Side and 2008's Music Music Music, it is a masterful, evocative and uplifting journey into perhaps the man's first love, musical theatre, comprising his favourite moments from Cats, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys and Mack and Mabel to name a few. The album is filled with instantly familiar classics - Memory, The Winner Takes It All, My Eyes Adored You - to the less immediately familiar, such as So Close, a spine-tingling duet with Jodie Prenger lifted from the recent Disney movie Enchanted and chosen for his niece Clare. Also included is a beautiful version of You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel, a song which his mother sang to him as a child. Every track holds an emotional relevance for John. Recorded exclusively for the iTunes album, The Doctor and I, about Captain Jack’s relationship with Doctor Who, is an imaginative re-working of The Wizard And I from the musical Wicked.

John Barrowman is representative of a man at the height of his powers, someone who can fill a song with the same chutzpah and style that he can a role on the West End stage. Simply put, he has never sounded better. 2010 is already promising to be a remarkable year for John Barrowman with a number of major projects confirmed. Watch him go global!

Poll. Would you buy an NTSC version of John's concert DVD?

Many fans have expressed disappointment that the concert DVD, an Evening with John Barrowman, due for release in November, will not be available in NTSC format for fans in US/Canada and other countries that use this format.

We have been in contact with the company producing the DVD of An Evening with John Barrowman and they may be interested in producing an NTSC version if we can gain an idea of what the demand would be. To this end we have created a poll.

If you would be interested in an NTSC version of the DVD, you can vote at:
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/OfficialBarrowmanTalk/polls

Unfortunately, we can only create this poll on our discussion group, OfficialBarrowmanTalk and you will be prompted to join the Talk group before you can vote. However, if you do not wish to participate in fan discussion, you can un-subscribe after the poll is complete.

Urgent Torchsong News. John unable to attend.

Unfortunately, John has sustained an injury and is no longer able to attend the Torchsong convention in Chicago this weekend as he is not allowed to fly. Please see the statement below from John's manager:

It is with great regret that I have to announce that John Barrowman is not able to attend Torchsong Chicago.  John sustained a very nasty injury to his left ankle yesterday.  An MRI scan has confirmed that he has completely ruptured all the ligaments around his ankle.  He cannot bear any weight on his foot and the doctor has said he is not medically fit to undertake long distance flights or his planned work. He must rest at home with his foot elevated for much of the time.

The plan is for John to do a video link with Torchsong.  He is upset not to be able to come and enjoy the weekend with you all.  He sends his love and best wishes to you all.

Gavin Barker.

We know this news will be a huge disappointment to those of you attending
Torchsong and John and his manager are in contact with Mary Lee Holzheimer on the matter. Please bear with us and watch the Torchsong site for further news from the convention organisers. We will announce any further information as soon as we have it.

UPDATE: Torchsong organisers inform us that Peter Wingfield (star of Highlander, Stargate SG1 and Holby City) has kindly agreed to attend the convention.

Tonight's The Night

BBC One is making dreams come true as part of a brand new, six part Saturday night entertainment show. Hosted by Torchwood and West End star John Barrowman, Tonight's The Night combines show-stopping acts from world class artists with once-in-a-lifetime performances that make people's dreams come true.

It doesn't matter how young or old, or how big, small or bizarre the wish. Tonight's The Night will end up being the night ordinary people live out their performing fantasy for real and become the most unlikely stars that Saturday evenings have ever seen. From local community heroes to enthusiastic amateurs with a hidden talent they have been yearning to unleash, Tonight will be their time to shine - with the help of John and the best talent in the business.

This could mean duetting with a favourite pop group, singing with a big band or tripping the light fantastic with the cast of a hit West End musical. John will leave no performance stone unturned to make this the night of their lives and a must see for entertainment fans.

There will also be big laughs, with a succession of celebrity guest appearances, performances, exciting studio challenges and show-stopping numbers. Guest celebrities will support the stars for a night and become involved in making their wishes come true.

The studio audience will also be kept on their showbiz toes, because John will be hitting unsuspecting members with a series of elaborately staged surprises, turning their dreams into a reality on the night whether they like it or not!

John says "I am so excited to be part of this new BBC One entertainment format on Saturday nights. As well as being packed with showbiz razzle dazzle and celebrity guests, I"m really looking forward to finding the unlikely stars out there, putting a little extra sparkle in their life and helping them realise their dreams. It"s pure entertainment and all about making people's wishes come true".

BBC One Controller Jay Hunt says "Tonight"s The Night has all the hallmarks of great family entertainment. John Barrowman is the ultimate all round performer and the perfect host for this exciting new show".

Anything Goes - The Paperback Edition

The paperback edition of John's best-selling biography, written with his sister, Carole E. Barrowman will be available in the UK from Michael O'Mara Books this February for £7.99

‘Charmingly lurid’ – Daily Telegraph. ‘Gossipy, fun and endlessly entertaining’ – Daily Record

• John Barrowman is the star of Torchwood, a judge on top-rating talent shows including I’d Do Anything, and an all-round star of stage and screen, whose career spans film, television, musical theatre, music recording and more.

• His bestselling autobiography details his remarkable personal and professional life, and the paperback edition includes fifteen new and unseen photographs from John’s private collection.

Anything Goes reveals John’s feelings on emigrating from Scotland to America, aged nine; coming out to his family; turning down a job with Disney; his acting awards; travelling the world; and his 2006 civil partnership with long-term partner Scott Gill.

• Funny, insightful, told with John’s trademark charm and written with his sister Carole, this is the fairytale narrative of how one boy achieved his dreams.

Stage door - Hippodrome

There have been a number of queries as to why John hasn't been coming out to sign autographs at the Stage Door recently.

While there's never a guarantee that he is able to do this, as it has been so cold, to stand out there for prolonged periods would risk him becoming ill again having recently getting over his throat infection last month. He has therefore decided that he will not sign autographs at the Stage Door for the remainder of this run.

The crowds are sometimes too large, and this puts people in danger from cars travelling on the road adjacent to the stage door. In addition to peoples' safety, we also need to be mindful of the traffic problems caused when vehicles can't move freely pass by the stage door.

John really appreciates your support and knows that in some cases you've had a very long journey to come and see him, he's very conscious that he needs to remain fit in order to provide the quality entertainment that people expect of him.

We hope you all understand and enjoy the show.
